London’s Walkie-Talkie tower is filling up and filling up quick. The 20 Fenchurch skyscraper, is now almost 60% full, after insurance Group RSA signed up as its newest tenant.

The iconic 160 meter building is still 18 months from completion but rents at the City location are going for as much as £60 a square foot – far overshooting the £50 a foot break even mark.

Land Securities’ chief executive Rob Noel attributed the success of the “so-called” Walki-Talkie project to a buoyant market, dismissing gloomy news from the High Street that dogged the Christmas period.

The development is a joint venture with Docklands landlord Canary Wharf Group.

Noel said: “We have got very good interest from insurers but there is also a lot of interest from outside the sector.”
