The London skyscraper dubbed the “Walkie Scorchie”, after reflections from the building melted a car, will be fitted with giant sunshades to stop the problem.
Originally nicknamed the “Walkie Talkie” because of its convex shape, the building reflects sunlight and focuses it on a single point, which in the summer created a beam that melted a car body and could cook eggs in minutes.
Developer Land Securities said it would fit the building with “brise soleil” – giant sunshades which should stop the building melting anything again.
