Multimillionaire Tory donor Edmund Lazarus is planning to build London’s biggest basement extension under his £20m Holland Park home.
The three-deck basement, touted as London’s most lavish basement ever, will come with a 25m swimming pool, two-level gym, dance/yoga studio and an entertainment room.
The tycoon also plans to put a wine cellar, cigar room, massage rooms, hot tub, sauna and steam rooms in the opulent basement.
The basement project will cost approximately £10m and if Kensington and Chelsea Council gives the go ahead, the project will take 50 weeks to execute.
Lazarus, a former investment banker and Westminster Councillor, has donated £95,000 to the Conservative Party in the last two years. London Mayor Boris Johnson made him chairman of the London Green Fund, a £100m project aimed at cutting the capital’s carbon emissions. Lazarus now runs private equity firm Bregal Capital.
