The openings of new restaurants across three floors in The Shard look set to bring a whole new meaning to ‘high tea’.

The entire restaurant space at London’s newest skyscraper has been leased by Hong Kong’s Aqua Restaurant Group and the founders of the Japanese restaurant chain Zuma, Arjun Waney and Rainer Becker.

Becker and Waney will open a rotisserie and grill on the 32nd floor of Europe’s tallest completed building, while the venue will also feature a bar with live music and a lighter menu.

David Yeo’s Aqua Restaurant Group will open restaurants on the 31st and 33rd floors of the 72-storey building, Shard developer Sellar Property confirmed.

Sellar Property chairman Irvine Sellar said: “We are delighted to have signed agreements with these two respected giants of the international restaurant scene.”

He continued: “These top-name operators will combine with the best views of London to create a superb and varied restaurant offering within The Shard that will complement the building’s international landmark status and make it one of London’s most exciting food and entertainment destinations.”

Diners will have to wait until March or April next year for the restaurants to open. But once the chefs, waiters and facilities are in place, they will not have a long journey to get to their tables.

They will be able to access the restaurants by entering through a dedicated entrance on St Thomas’ Street, before taking either one of two express lifts directly to the restaurant atrium on The Shard’s 32nd floor.

Becker and Waney’s Roka and Zumba restaurant brands now stretch across three continents, with diners tucking into Japanese cuisine in London, Hong Kong, Dubai and Bangkok.

Aqua Restaurant Group runs more than 20 venues across the Hong Kong and Beijing area. It launched its first London venues back in 2009 when Aqua Nueva and Aqua Kyoto opened on Regent Street.

Along with an impressive selection of eateries, The Shard will also be home to a 202-bedroom Shangri-La hotel on floors 34 to 52, which will accept bookings from March. A swimming pool, gym and bar will be located on the 52nd floor.
