Portugal has swept the board at the World Travel Awards 2023, winning the coveted awards for Europe’s Leading Destination and Europe’s Leading Beach Destination (for the Algarve coast). In total, Portugal, its regions, its islands and its businesses took home an impressive 23 awards in the European category, winning everything from Leading City Break Destination (Porto) and Leading City (Lisbon) to Leading Island Destination (Madeira Islands).

For businesses in the Algarve, providing high-quality experiences that are worthy of Europe’s leading beach destination is second nature. According to Kronos Homes, which owns and operates the Algarve’s stunning Palmares Ocean Living & Golf, luxury lifestyle benefits are core to Portugal’s tourism offering.

“The Algarve has an incredible array of attractions with which to charm visitors. The scenery is incredible, from the misty-topped mountains and rolling greenery to the miles of golden sandy beaches set against the sparkling blue backdrop of the Atlantic. Local flavours give the region a distinctive and delicious gastronomy, while its world-class golf facilities appeal to players from across the globe,” said, Alda Filipe, Sales and Marketing Director, Kronos Homes

Palmares itself is no stranger to awards. Its impressive clubhouse (designed by Pritzker Prize winners RCR Arquitectes) picked up a National Real Estate Award in 2021, while on-site fine dining restaurant Al Sud garnered a Michelin Star within six months of opening.

The quality of the experience on offer at Palmares exemplifies the luxury available in the Algarve. Visitors can stay in the adults-only Beach House Hotel or rent a Signature Apartment. The latter are also available to purchase, priced from €600,000 for an ocean-view home. The properties look out over the glittering waters of the Alvor Estuary and provide easy access to the 4 km Blue Flag beach of Meia Praia, which runs all the way to Lagos Marina.

“The Algarve’s beaches provide huge variety and are lovely to visit at this time of year, whether for picnics in the sunshine, long walks or a spot of surfing, kite surfing, swimming or paddleboarding. It’s fantastic to see the region honoured for its exceptional beaches at this year’s World Tourism Awards,” added, Filipe.
