Monstrous rent for a miniscule London home is a classic theme for the capital’s dysfunctional rental market.

Here’s another ludicrous example that came to light today.

A Clapton converted shed is being marketed on Rightmove as a “studio flat” available to rent for over £1,000 a month.

Hackney flat

The property on Brooke Road has been described as a “self contained studio flat in stand alone unit” by the advertiser.

According to the listing, the fully-furnished flat has one bedroom, a bathroom and “more than one private entrance”.

The advert read: “We offer a unique large ground floor fully self contained studio flat in stand alone unit. This studio has a modern fully fitted eat in kitchen, large open plan/living area, fully tiled bathroom, private entrance, Secure gated complex, off street parking and a private entrance.”

The property was spotted by Robbie de Santos, senior public policy advocate at debt charity StepChange who tweeted it to Hackney Council.

Hackney Council’s private sector housing team are now inspecting the property.
