Google’s “ambitious” ideas have led to delays in the building of the tech giant’s £650m Kings Cross headquarters.

BAM Construct, the contractor that Google is using to build the new 950,000sq ft office which will hold 5,000 staff, said in its annual report the project would be pushed back to “at least 2017”.

Camden Council had approved plans for the development and work was due to start in November this year. However the tech company went back to the drawing board, saying it wanted to be as ambitious as possible.

A spokesperson for Google told City AM: “Kings Cross is our future home in London. As we raise our ambitions on what we can achieve in King’s Cross, this will inevitably take some additional time.”
