If you were ever in any doubt about the definition of Schadenfreude, then review your own feelings in one second, because the way you react to this news will almost certainly be it: a £5.25m flat in the world’s most expensive apartment block has just been repossessed.

The fourth-floor, one-bedroom apartment is being sold by receivers Strutt & Parker as an “entry-level” flat. Yes, really.

The Knightsbridge development is owned by Christian Candy and ex-Qatari prime minister Sheik Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani via a Guernsey-based company. Apartments go for between £5,000 and £7,500 per sq ft. Flats in One Hyde Park have sold for up to £140m.

Residents are said to include Christian and Nick Candy themselves, Kylie Minogue, Kazakh singer Anar Aitzhanova, British insurance broker Rory Carvill, Mohammed Saud Sultan al-Qasimi, head of finance for the government of Sharjah, Irish property big-shot Raymond Grehan, and Ukraine’s richest man Rinat Akhmetov.
