The luxurious Monte Santo resort, where Kronos Homes recently launched real estate sales, is showing how easy it can be to turn a summer holiday into a permanent move overseas. With key-ready, fully furnished homes in a superb central Algarve location, the resort presents an attractive and accessible lifestyle for families seeking to relocate to a new life in the sun.

Foreign interest in Portuguese property is strong. According to the Bank of Portugal, foreign direct investment in the country amounted to €1,000 million during the first three months of 2024. Of that, €682 million was invested in real estate.

Interest from Britons seeking a new life in Portugal is also strong. Figures from Portugal’s 2022 Immigration, Borders and Asylum Report show that there were 45,218 Britons resident in Portugal, accounting for 5.8% of all foreign residents (and second only to Brazilians in terms of the number of foreigners calling Portugal home). That figure jumped 7.8% from the previous year.

Part of the attraction of moving to Portugal is how easy it can be. Foreigners can obtain a fiscal identification number and open a bank account with little difficulty and a handful of documents (proof of income, proof of address, ID and so on).

English speakers making the move can find visa, legal and tax advice readily available in their native tongue. Those wishing to buy a property in Portugal should seek professional advice, just as they would in their home country. Many Portuguese banks will provide a loan for up to 80% of the property value for foreigners.

Visa advice is also important. The D7 visa is a popular choice for retirees, while the D2 can work well for entrepreneurs, freelancers and independent service providers. Immigrating with the correct visa can have significant tax implications, so consulting a specialist firm before applying is always a good approach.

Choosing the right location is another important step. Carvoeiro, towards the western end of the Central Algarve, has much to appeal to those looking for an easy move overseas from the UK. Around a 45-minute drive from Faro Airport and a 15-minute drive from the A22 motorway that stretches the length of the Algarve, the coastal town provides excellent connectivity while retaining its picture-perfect beach lifestyle. The golden sands are backed by rugged cliffs topped with pretty white houses, while the natural curve of the land provides calm waters for paddling, swimming and snorkelling.

Those living in Carvoeiro have all they need on their doorstep, from shops, restaurants and bars to healthcare services and a respected international school less than 15 minutes’ drive away. The huge Slide and Splash waterpark is also reachable in 15 minutes, while the local coastline provides a selection of beaches known for their idyllic scenery, diving trails, cliff tours and more.

On the property front, the five-star Monte Santo resort in Carvoeiro presents a selection of homes, with both apartments and villas available to move straight into. Priced from €279,000, the properties feature light-filled interiors and large terraces and gardens. The resort is also home to an impressive swimming pool, four smaller pools, a spa and wellness centre, a lovely children’s area, a clubhouse and a multi-sports court.

The combination of key-ready fully furnished homes and superb on-site facilities means that buyers can take a ‘plug and play’ approach to moving to Portugal, cutting much of the stress out of the relocation process.

“Establishing a new life in the Portuguese sunshine shouldn’t be stressful. That’s why Monte Santo offers the ideal relocation choice – we want our buyers to enjoy every moment of their new adventure from day one,” said, Alda Filipe, Real Estate Director, Kronos Homes.
