Amazon is upping its game in London with a gargantuan new office in Shoreditch.
The 15-storey building will house more than 5,000 employees in a move that looks set to near-treble Amazonโs current 1,700-strong UK workforce.
The corporate office is set to open in 2017 at Principal Place, near Spitalfields, Shoreditch High Street and Liverpool Street Station. (Itโll be just off Curtain Road, for those who know the area.)
Itโll have two sports courts on the roof, including a tennis court, and a pool, from the looks of the images on the developer Brookfield Property Partnersโs Principal Place webite.
Amazon plans to move all its UK employees to its three current London office by next summer, then move into the Principal Place building in 2017.
Christopher North, Amazonโs UK MD, said: โTo support our continued growth in the UK, we have secured this exceptional building giving us the capacity to hire thousands of new employees in London in the coming years, in addition to the thousands of permanent roles we will create across our UK fulfilment and customer service centres.โ
Boris is understandably happy about the news, and said: โOur city is the perfect home for top tech talent and I am very pleased that Amazon have confirmed their intention to create thousands of new jobs at a major new base in east London.
โWe are proving time and again that we have the right places and people to support this vibrant sector.โ
