1 Undershaft is set to be the tallest building in the City

Plans for a new skyscraper in London are underway, but it seems the new building might ruffle some feathers over at The Shard.

1 Undershaft

1 Undershaft is a new 309.6m skyscraper set to be built in between the Gherkin and the Cheesegrater.

It won’t be taller than The Shard, but it is set to feature a viewing platform at the top of the 73-storey building.

This will be higher than The Shard’s (which is on floor 68) and, most importantly, FREE to the public (unlike the £25.95 adult ticket price tag for The View From The Shard).

It’s designed by architect Eric Parry and commissioned by Singapore-based Aroland Holdings.

Parry said: “1 Undershaft will create more of the quality office space that is desperately needed in the capital and will reconnect the city’s tall building cluster with the public.

“This building will set new standards for the City in terms of comfort, quality, environmental sustainability and putting the public at the heart of the tower.”

The building will provide more than 90,000sqm of internal space and will have an elevated lobby – meaning people can walk underneath the skyscraper.
