The lack of affordable housing is one of London’s biggest problems. Schemes like Help to Buy and Funding for Lending have made it easier for a minority of people to get on the property ladder but have done nothing to stop the burgeoning housing bubble.
But the YMCA has one potential solution: It has designed and built new 267sqm one bed self-contained flats which can be stacked together in clusters on brownfield sites.
Rents will be set at or below the Local Housing Allowance for a one bedroom unit which makes it accessible to people on benefits.
