South East set for estate agency recruitment boom

Research from eXp UK, the network of personal estate agents, has revealed that the South East is currently most in need of a personnel boost, accounting for almost half of all current job listings for estate agents.

eXp analysed current job advertisements for estate agents across the major job listing websites and what proportion of these job openings were found in each region of the UK.

Despite the market cooling in recent months where the rate of house price growth is concerned, property professionals across the nation have hit the ground running in 2023, as a stabilising mortgage sector has helped ensure a robust level of buyer activity remains across the UK property market.

Having worked tirelessly over the last two years to service the unrelenting activity spurred by the pandemic property market boom, it’s no surprise that many estate agency businesses are now looking to bolster their team sheet ahead of what has widely anticipated to be another busy year.

The figures compiled by eXp show that it’s the South East where estate agents are most in need of reinforcements, with the region accounting for 48% of all current estate agent job listings.

This is by far the highest of all UK regions, with London ranking second, accounting for 13% of all current job advertisements for estate agents.

With 7% of current estate agent job opportunities found in the South West, the region ranks as the third hottest spot for recruitment in 2023, followed by the West Midlands (6%).

In contrast, the current requirement for estate agents is at its lowest in Northern Ireland, with the nation accounting for just 0.2% of current job openings.

Head of eXp UK, Adam Day said, “In recent years, the industry has been stretched extremely thin whilst servicing an unrelenting pandemic surge in market activity and so the need for good, experienced estate agents has never been greater.

“Although many were quick to call the demise of the market following the first signs of a house price decline, there are numerous indicators that stability has now returned and confidence remains high within the sector.

“One such sign is the intent by many businesses to recruit so early in the year and there is currently a wealth of opportunities for those looking to make the next step in their career. Nowhere more so than the South East, with the region accounting for almost half of all current job openings.”
