According to the latest NHBC data, new home registrations slipped by 4% over the quarter, while those for October alone suggested an improvement but with private sector registrations still declining.
NHBC figures reveal that during the rolling quarter of August to October, registrations for new homes slipped to 40,472 from 42,198 during the equivalent period in 2018.
Of these, 28,182 were for the private sector, a drop of 12%. Meanwhile, registrations for the affordable and rental sector continued their story of growth, increasing 22% to 12,290.
In October, registrations increased 6% year-on-year to 15,343 new homes. Those for the private sector fell 2% to 10,688, with affordable and rental registrations growing 31% to 4,655.
During the August to October quarter, four out of 12 UK regions saw registration growth, including the West Midlands at +56%, London +10% and Yorkshire and Humberside at +6%.
Steve Wood, NHBC’s CEO said, “Following several months of slowdown as a result of Brexit uncertainties, it is promising to see encouraging numbers for October. NHBC will continue working with the industry to maintain and improve the quality of new homes for the people who live in them.”
