London based Used Kitchen Hub interview

17th May 24 12:55 pm

London based Used Kitchen Hub was founded in 2015 by Daniel Abrahams when the thought of buying or selling a used kitchen was still relatively new.

Until then so many used kitchens, with many years of life in them, were simply discarded and sent to landfill.

Since launch, the business has grown organically as more and more people looked to expert guidance and advice for the sale of their own kitchen. Daniel sat down with us to talk us about why he founded the business and his clientele who love a bargain!

  1. How and why did you start Used Kitchen Hub? What is the scope for your business model?

I founded Used Kitchen Hub in 2015 after selling my own kitchen when I extended my home the previous year. By providing new owners with a perfectly viable kitchen whilst saving it from being sent to landfill, I knew that I could replicate this business model on a larger scale and really make an impact.

With 20 years’ experience in office and modular furniture planning, I established Used Kitchen Hub alongside my wife Alyson, and today, we have a proven managed solution that has allowed us to help so many people with their renovation projects – from evaluation to selling and removal.

Over the last nine years, our family-run business has become the UK’s “go to” platform for free guidance, advice and help with all aspects of buying and selling ex-display and privately owned used kitchens at discounted rates.

  1. What sort of clientele do you work with?

At Used Kitchen Hub, we specialise in the high-end luxury kitchen market – we recently listed and sold a kitchen for just under half a million pounds – and are looking forward to reaching our £1 million goal!

Although our experience lies mainly within the luxury sector, we’re here to help all types of customers with various budgets. Whether it’s for an end user for their own home, landlords for rental properties, developers or interior designers, we cater to everyone, with kitchens ranging from £2,000 to £200,000.

Not only do we supply kitchens across the length and breadth of the UK, but also throughout Europe and across the globe, having built long-lasting relationships with multiple European manufacturers and showrooms.

  1. What type of kitchens (colours, hardware, design) are trending in 2024?

In terms of our stock, we turn around a number of different styles and designs depending on the customer’s budget. That being said, we have seen a few trends that are proving popular, including muted colours, gold/brass fixtures and marble worktops for those that are looking for a minimal yet timeless kitchen.

Stainless steel elements also feature in many of our kitchens, as it’s easy to maintain and clean, whilst giving an industrial and professional feel. ‘Dark’ kitchens featuring deep blues/greens, grey and black cabinets are also on the rise, as well as more elevated kitchen islands that feature a bar-style design or split level countertops.

  1. How important is sustainability in the interiors and kitchen industries?

When it comes to interiors and home improvements such as kitchen renovations, the issue of sustainability is becoming more and more important – not only for companies within the building trade but the end customer too.

In many cases, the kitchen is often the largest/most used room in the home, so the fact that our business provides an easy way to recycle this is a huge achievement – and one that we’re immensely proud of. At Used Kitchen Hub, we’re dedicated to doing everything we can to reduce our environmental impact, and this is something that our customers deem a priority too.

  1. What plans do you have for Used Kitchen Hub in the coming months and years? How do you see the second-hand kitchen market evolving?

Our goal is to revolutionise the used kitchen and ex-display market for both buyers and sellers, by making the consumer more aware.

Used Kitchen Hub is currently leading the way with modern technology and online marketing, offering a seamless process for all parties involved. Our experienced approach and hand-held management solution combined with our reliable logistics removal and delivery process means we will continue to evolve at a healthy rate – alongside the natural evolution of the market as a result of more and more consumers caring about the planet than ever before.
