Spain continues its reign as the global leader when it comes to Blue Flag beaches. The country racked up 638 Blue Flags for its beaches in 2024, along with 102 for marinas and seven for tourist boats: an impressive total of 747 Blue Flags (an increase of 18 compared to 2023). The awards mean that Spain has now topped the Blue Flag league tables for 30 consecutive years.

Buyers seeking second homes near Blue Flag beaches have a wealth of options available to them. Leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España offers properties near Blue Flag beaches in the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca and Mallorca, showcasing the variety of coastal homes that buyers can purchase with stunning beaches on their doorstep.

“Blue Flags demonstrate a commitment to cleanliness, safety, environmental management, services and more. They mean that buyers can be assured of the quality of their local beach and its suitability as a family-friendly destination,” said, Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director, Taylor Wimpey España

The Valencian Community scooped the highest number of Blue Flags of any Spanish region in 2024, with a total of 159, followed by Andalusia with 156. The Balearic Island of Mallorca will also be proudly flying 20 Blue Flags this year.

Mallorca second home buyers seeking a top Blue Flag beach location will find both Compass and La Mar fit the bill. The apartments – priced from €340,000 plus VAT at Compass and from €500,000 plus VAT at La Mar – are just a kilometre from the stunning beaches of Cala Mondragó and Cala Santanyi, both of which proudly continue flying their Blue Flags in 2024.

Back on the mainland, Taylor Wimpey España has launched a new phase of homes at its popular Emerald Greens development in Cadiz. Priced from €375,000 plus VAT, the two- and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses come with three communal pools, a large leisure area and beautiful corn oak meadows crisscrossed with footpaths and benches for resting in the midst of nature. Three Blue Flag beaches in the local area complete the offering, with buyers enjoying easy access to Alcaidesa-El Faro, Cala Sardina and Torreguadiaro.

In the Costa del Sol – always a popular destination with Britons – second home buyers are spoilt for choice when it comes to buying a property near a Blue Flag beach. There is Solemar, close to Playa Ancha, with apartments and penthouses priced from €325,000 plus VAT, while both Mare and Terra provide easy access to San Pedro de Alcántara and Puerto Banús-Levante. Mare’s three-bedroom apartments (from €625,000 plus VAT) and four-bedroom penthouses (from €1.39 million) are just a four-minute walk from the seafront. Terra, meanwhile, has just one penthouse still available, with the four-bedroom home costing from €1.48 million plus VAT.

“The Costa del Sol has a wealth of Blue Flag beaches and property options. There is something to suit every buyer, with second homes at a wide range of price points, all within easy reach of golden sands and sparkling blue waters,” Pritchard added.
