One of the world’s wealthiest artists Damien Hirst has just planning permission to put a gigantic basement under his £34m London home.

Hirst can now build a subterranean mega-basement to store his vast collection which includes works of iconic artists including Pablo Picasso and Tracey Emin.

The Turner Prize winner’s basement plans were first deemed “unacceptable” by Westminster Council.

Despite the reservations, Hirst won permission to replace a gardener’s cottage with a new building that links to the underground basement through a lift that can carry heavy artwork.

The Grade I listed home, that boasts 17 bedrooms, was snapped by Hirst for £34m last year.

The British artist is also set to give his home a big makeover with the fabric of the main building being restored.
