There are few cities in the world as lively, vibrant and fun as London. As a business and cultural hub, it is easy to see why it is somewhere that many dream of living. The capital is a desirable place and there are many different areas where you could live that would provide an enjoyable lifestyle in London. Keep reading to find out more.

Is London for you?

First, you should think about whether or not London is for you. There are a few key considerations, including:

  • Financial status
  • Career prospects
  • Age
  • Interests
  • Family and marital status

One of the great things about London is that there are so many areas suited to different types of people. If you are a young professional, there are plenty of good options for lively areas with lots of bars and restaurants. If you are married with kids, there are quieter areas with green spaces but with good transport links to the centre.

Up and coming areas

There are many very popular districts in London, but what about a few that are up and coming? A few places that have a lot going for them but may be cheaper than the iconic neighbourhoods include:

  • Kingston
  • Peckham
  • Pence
  • Stratford
  • Tottenham

West London

West London is generally the more affluent area and an ideal place for families with quiet neighbourhoods, good schools and green spaces. Currently, Hayes is proving to be popular with affordable family homes and the arrival of Crossrail to provide greater connection to the capital.

East London

East London is considered a more affordable region with diversity, strong culture,  good nightlife and green spaces making it a good choice for young professionals and families. A few of the best places to live include Canary Wharf, Shoreditch, Bethnal Green and Hackney.

Central

Central London obviously has a lot going for it and is ideal for those that want to be in the heart of the action. Blackfriars is a nice neighbourhood in a good position and you have strong transport links with just a 35-minute train to Gatwick.

South London

South London is popular with many different boroughs with quick access to the capital. It can also be affordable in areas with green areas and lively nightlife. Balham is considered an up-and-coming area and other good choices include Crystal Palace, Forest Hill and Wandsworth.

North London

North London is generally seen as the quieter part of London with lots of parks and family-friendly attractions and a strong sense of community. There are many good places to live here for people of all ages, including Angel, Highgate and Finsbury Park.

London is a fantastic place to live and it is also hugely diverse, so it is not too hard to find somewhere that suits your lifestyle whether you want to enjoy the nightlife or lead a quiet family life in a leafy borough.
