Westfield and a branch of the Qatari wealth fund are said to heading bids to take over the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), owner of the O2 Arenas in London and Berlin.
The sale of AEG, which also owns various sports teams including the LA Lakers, was first announced in September 2012, but bids are expected to start being submitted from next week.
According to sources close to the deal, AEG is said to be asking for $10bn (£6.3bn), although offers are likely to be in the range $5bn – $8bn (£3.15bn – £5bn).
