The world’s biggest cycling race is set to return to the French Alps this year, with what organisers are promising will be “the highest Tour in history” crossing some of the toughest climbs in the country. For the 19th and penultimate stage of the race, riders will tackle 123km from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne through the Iseran Pass, Europe’s highest paved road, to Tignes. Renowned for its sporty reputation, Tignes is a haven for active escapes and a hotspot for holiday homes alike, with a range of leaseback purchase homes available through MGM French Properties.

For cycle enthusiast and sports holiday seekers after a second home in an idyllic setting, Tignes offers a range of new build apartments constructed in the traditional, charming chalet style of the region. Le Lodge des Neiges is a stunning development by MGM French Properties located in Tignes 1800, ideal for winter ski holidays and summer outdoor adventures. Prices start from €225,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.

Boasting exceptional surroundings between lakes, glaciers and summits at the heart of the Vanoise National Park, Tignes is a diverse destination offering year-round activities for participants and spectators alike. This year’s Tour de France is returning to Tignes for the first time since 2007, taking riders 32.9km to the summit of the Tour at the Col de l’Iseran (2,770m) a peak that will only be reached for the eighth time in the history of the Tour.

Following a descent to Val d’Isère, the route rises to Lake Chevril before the last few kilometres between Tignes les Brévières and Tignes 1800, where locals and fans will cheer on the athletes to the finish at Tignes Val Claret. Summer 2019 is set to be an exceptional season for cycling in Tignes, with the area also hosting the 56th edition of the Tour de l’Avenir in August.

Le Lodge des Neiges (‘The Snow Lodge’) is a development located in a prime position above the Tignes 1800 gondola. Residents will benefit from an exclusive 1,000m² spa and recreational facility, which includes a swimming pool, children’s paddling pool, private gymnasium featuring the most up-to-date equipment, spa facilities and treatment rooms.

The apartments are fully furnished with cosy interiors; warm colours complement neutral tones and combine with spacious floorplates to create a homely environment to relax in after an action-packed day. Kitchens come fitted with finely crafted granite worktops and other facilities, including a washing machine, dishwasher, and fridge-freezer. Apartments also boast floor-to-ceiling French windows and large balconies to take in the Alpine views.

For cyclists wanting to test Tignes’ turf, there is an excellent selection of routes to discover the wider area including riding from Bourg Saint Maurice to Tignes, Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise to Tignes and Tignes through Col de l’Iseran, which will feature in the Tour de France race. For mountain bike riders, the Tignes Val d’Isere Bike Park boasts 150km of trails open between June and September. Families benefit from accessible routes including the “Voie Vert” (green path) which wraps around Tignes lake. Other summer activities in Tignes include hiking, water sports, golf, archery, tennis, rock climbing and paragliding.

Richard Deans, Sales Manager at MGM French Properties said, “Popular with families and sports fanatics, Tignes is a destination that has something for everyone. The resort is better known for its skiing with its snow-sure high altitude. However, with the world’s eyes on the region for this year’s Tour de France coupled with Tignes hosting the Tour de l’Avenir, we are sure to see its popularity grow with keen cyclists looking to challenge themselves on its fantastic selection of routes on and off road.

“With one to four-bedroom apartments on offer at Le Lodge des Neiges, and an exclusive range of onsite amenities, the development is set to be an incredible home-away-from-home for sports lovers in one of France’s best resorts.”
