Experienced entrepreneurs raise £1 million to launch the ‘Skyscanner’ of building materials

BuildBuddy, a new startup, aims to change the way construction materials are purchased by the UK’s 330,000 SME builders.

Leveraging advanced technology and AI, the online BETA platform scans the market to find the best construction materials at the best prices with the most suitable delivery terms; an average basket might save a builder c.14%.

BuildBuddy has recently raised a c.£1m seed round and has support from past and present execs of the travel equivalent, Skyscanner.

The concept was born through the experiences of co-founder and experienced entrepreneur, Jamie Menzies – his construction company (Zebra Property Group) was always battling with finding a true and reliable price quickly.

Jamie said, “It would take hours to engage with merchants, await price quotes, and make informed purchasing decisions. Often, time constraints compelled us to settle for suboptimal options, leading to unnecessary expenses.”

BuildBuddy does all the work for you, he added, “if we get this right, I genuinely think this will change the way builders buy their materials.”

Menzies’ co-founder and head of product, Alix Baldwin, brings a wealth of experience from his time as MD at comparison site Funeral Choice, complementing Menzies’ expertise and forming a formidable leadership duo. Together, they have assembled a dynamic team of industry professionals dedicated to driving innovation and excellence in construction material procurement.

With very little technology in the space and £72billion spent on construction materials in the UK, the opportunity is large. Board Advisor and scale-up expert Shane Corstorphine said, “The idea is ingenious, and the team behind it is exceptionally well-equipped to execute.” Visit  www.buildbuddy.co.uk to find out more.
