Once home to successful British chef Rachel Khoo, author of The Little Paris Kitchen and judge on Netflix’s popular show Zumbo’s Just Desserts, a charming ground floor apartment in Kensal Rise with a magnificent designer kitchen has come to the market with Dexters, for sale for £665,000.

Located on Ravensworth Road on the ground floor of a Victorian property, the contemporary two-bedroom apartment has been designed and renovated by Khoo to the highest standard, inspired by her years living in Paris as she learned to cook under masters at Le Cordon Bleu institute and her design degree from Central Saint Martin’s college of Art and Design.

Providing 696 sq. ft. of curated space, there is a balance throughout of top-quality appliances and unique, reclaimed pieces which were sourced locally. The standout space of the property is the open-plan Parisian-inspired kitchen, dining and living room, in which Khoo has filmed and developed recipes for her most recent cookbooks.

The striking kitchen is designed by deVOL, with Shaker-style cabinets in a bright pea-green hue and matching tiling from Milagros, a Columbian tiling shop on Columbia Road. The design focuses on effortless functionality, with integrated Smeg appliances and bespoke cabinets for ample storage.

The worktops are reclaimed Iroko school science-lab counter tops that Khoo sourced from Retrouvious. The kitchen leads through bi-folding doors to a private courtyard, with further cabinets and workspace perfect for al fresco cooking and dining, creating a free-flowing space when entertaining.

Embracing European-style functionality of flexible living and working space, the apartment has two bedrooms, with the wall separating them featuring a unique, movable bookshelf by BCabinetry. The Murphy master bed can be folded away and hidden by clever cabinetry, and the bookshelf wall can be pushed back to create a large, open-plan living area.

The bookshelf wall also has concealed desks that fold out, with the two bedrooms designed as flexible live-work spaces depending on the resident’s need. Both bedrooms have beautiful herringbone oak flooring, with traditional sash windows for lots of natural light.

The property’s bathroom is inspired by boutique hotels, with a roll-top clawfoot bathtub and a Moroccan-style plaster on the walls. The door to the bathroom is hidden behind a reclaimed telephone box door with mirrored panels and the apartment hallway is painted a rich Prussian blue, with panelling and Victorian-style tiles.

Celebrity chef Rachel Khoo said,“For the design of this home I wanted to focus on functionality and beauty, a home designed for urban living. I think lockdown restrictions are making Londoners re-evaluate the functionality of their homes and any ‘wasted space’ such as bedrooms that could be more flexible, an element of European design that I love.

“The centrepiece of the home is undoubtedly the kitchen, which has real soul, it is a wonderful space to cook in. Here I have hosted everything from cookery workshops, to brunches for food writers, to dinners for my friends.

“I think this apartment is perfect for a young professional who wants an adaptable live-work space, or someone who adores cooking who wants a statement kitchen to call their own.  As a chef the kitchen is the most important room for me, and this kitchen is truly the heart of the home.”

Ed Burchett, Sales Director at Dexters said, “Ravensworth Road offers a charming home with high-quality design throughout following a fantastic 12-month renovation by celebrity chef Rachel Khoo. The quality of living space on offer and originality of design make this apartment stand out and we are anticipating a very high level of interest from buyers.

“This is the rare opportunity to purchase a home with a magnificent kitchen designed by an internationally acclaimed chef, perfect for all those buyers who have discovered a passion for baking or cooking during the lockdown restrictions.

“In addition, with lockdown restrictions leading to a rise in ‘telecommuting’ and working from home, buyers will be looking for spaces that are adaptable and well-designed for ever-changing home-working needs.”

Rachel Khoo is a British chef, writer and producer, whose first cookbook The Little Paris Kitchen won international acclaim when published in 2012, later becoming a popular BBC series.
