Housebuilder, Taylor Wimpey has announced that due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis and lockdown measures implemented by the government, completions have slumped almost 40% year-on-year – reflecting the impact of site closures.
However, despite this, the business is also reporting a strong level of interest in its homes.
Figures released by the firm show that during the 22 weeks to May 31 2020, completions totalled 2,455 against the 4,052 achieved over the equivalent period last year.
TW said that forward indicators had improved since reopening its sales offices in England, with the business experiencing a threefold increase in appointment bookings in the week to May 31 and a 32% lift in website traffic against the same time last year. It noted seeing a “good level of interest” in its 5% discount scheme for NHS and care workers.
Taylor Wimpey’s sales centres are operating by appointment only and with social distancing protocols in place.
The company also stated it was on course to reach “meaningful” production capacity from the end of June. It praised its workers for adapting to its new working practices and showing “strong support” for its Covid-19 Code of Conduct. All of its furloughed staff have now returned to work, with many still working from home.
The business hopes to begin trading from its sales centres in Scotland and Wales by July, once the Scottish and Welsh governments change guidelines.
